LHS Gospel Choir History
In December 2012, a formal petition was erected to start a new club at Lawrence High School. After completion of all requirements, the formation of the gospel choir was approved. In February 2013, auditions were held and practices commenced. After just two weeks of practice, the Gospel Choir received its first invitation to sing from Union Baptist Church in Trenton, NJ. Adorned in black and colorful cloths of African print for Black History Month, the choir sang for the first time on February 24, 2013. The first performance was a success and was met by applause and ovation. In March, the Gospel Choir received an invitation to perform at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the New Criminal Courthouse of Mercer County in Trenton, NJ. Students boarded the bus to yet another successful performance, this time giving a soulful rendition of the national anthem. At the heart of its formation, the LHS Gospel Choir was formed to encourage and inspire students of all races, creeds, and colors to bond under the fellowship of gospel music. By implementing an enriching, spiritually driven style of music, the choir’s goal has remained one that provides an atmosphere for LHS students to showcase their musical, vocal, oratorical, and dance talents and to learn to embrace one another and the surrounding community with love and kindness. |
